Dine & Dash at Kabuki in Waimalu
Hawaii Diner Staff
April 2004

The front door to Kabuki is flanked by a busy Okazuya window which routinely sells out well before lunch time but walk through the door and it is akin to stepping back in time to a quieter era. The small Koi pond on the left leads to an old fashioned Japanese restaurant setting of dark wood, booths and a small sushi bar. There is a private dining room which is often full of happy people celebrating life-events. The wait staff is unobtrusive, helpful and efficient.

We've dined on a variety of dishes all of which are good but the stand out is the Tanuki Udon which appears from the kitchen steaming hot and well covered with those tasty little fried bits left over from the cooking of tempura. A flavorful broth is enhanced by the perfectly chewy noodles. I confess that I have become addicted to these noodles and now rarely order anything else. Oh well, I'm happy!
