Catania Ristorante Italiano - Superior Italian & Mediterranean Food at Bargin Prices
Hawaii Diner Staff & The Ozawa Family
March 2006

Andy Lau learned the art of Italian and Mediterranean cooking at the fondly remembered Manoa restaurant, Beau Soliel. When they closed down he brought his culinary skills to this spot and has gained a loyal following of customers over the years. Catania offers all of the classic pasta, seafood and meat dishes one would expect as well as some unique sandwich and salad combos. One of the most popular is the Eggplant Parmigiana Sandwich which you combine with the salad of your choice. Jennifer really enjoyed her Clam Linguine with White Wine Sauce - we all had a taste and it was excellent. The trick is to dig up the sauce from the bottom of the tray. An oddity was the soft white American-style bread the pasta is served with but it worked fine to sop up the juices. Oddier still is to find food of this quality at such value prices. The food is much better than some 'name' restaurants in town. It wouldn't be out of place in a sit-down eatery served on nice plates atop a cloth draped table. Excellent value. Building owner, Jim Steiner, loves the Lasagna which he called "A classic. Very good."

The Clam Linguine would have been at home in a much more expensive and fancy restaurant - the sauce was very good and the pasta al dente
