Hawaii Diner Staff

There are few things in life we enjoy more than eating great food. Living in Hawaii provides a unique opportunity to eat lots of excellent food and we really appreciate all of the wonderful locally-grown and produced products finding their way into markets and onto menus here. We can be completely impressed by simply prepared and presented food and disappointed by overhyped and manipulated dishes. Our favorite cuisines tend to be spicier than the average diner enjoys and we take this into account when we review restaurants. We love to share information about food with other food lovers so feel free to email us and tell us about your favorite places to eat in Hawaii.

Fran Wilson Magbual
Food Adventurer & Seafood Lover
To say Fran brings a multi-cultural perspective to food is an understatement. She is half Micronesian, half Haole, raised in Guam and married to a Filipino. She has always been adventurous about trying new foods and restaurants and enjoys introducing friends to the best of these food finds. In her life before marriage and motherhood, Fran traveled frequently to Florence, Italy and New York City. Her fondest memories of those cities are the great restaurants and food that she tried there. Before moving to Hawaii she also helped put together the content on GuamDiner.com with Gail Jennings. She moved to Hawaii in 2002 and has continued seeking out new food experiences with the help of her husband, Gil, who has lived here since he was five years old. Fran and Gil live in Pearl City with their 2-year old son and infant daughter.

Cheryl King
Cheryl King recently moved to the Big Island after her husband Lonnie retired from the Navy and she hung up her hat as a school librarian. Their tours of duty took them to Washington State, San Diego, Guam (three times) and Spain which enabled them to travel in Europe and the Pacific Region where one of their favorite pastimes was dining out. The evening's restaurant was usually planned before the sightseeing itinerary! Cheryl enjoys taking cooking lessons featuring ethnic cuisine and has even discovered French cooking lessons on the Big Island. She loves practicing her French and Spanish with any native speaker who is inclined to chat.

Cristol Cruz
Business Executive/Food Lover
Cristol was born and raised in Hawaii. She loves to cook (especially desserts) but does not like to "wing it," preferring to use a recipe. To support this habit she has a large collection of local cookbooks most of them of the fund-raising variety because the recipes are easy, quick and delicious. Her husband is a great cook who is always exploring new methods. He just recently discovered smoking with the outdoor BBQ grill which she describes as "Great! No more burnt BBQ!" Cristol is always looking for new places to eat with family, friends and for work (business lunches and dinners). She loves trying new foods while traveling and finding great places to eat here at home. Cristol quote: "What's better than eating? Telling everyone about it and going back for more."

The Ozawa Family
Seeking Family Friendly Dining
Ryan and Jennifer are a Mililani couple with three kids. While they love to eat great food, they have also developed a sincere appreciation for dining options that accommodate a broad mix of appetites, tastes, and patience levels. Ryan is a born-and-raised Hawaii boy whose culinary worldliness is limited to local spots and stuff he sees on The Food Network. Jennifer is a transplant from Florida who has lived up and down the East Coast, eats and cooks with gusto, and is frighteningly obsessed with kitchen gadgets. They have a six-year-old daughter who loves broccoli, a two-year-old son who loves carbs, and an infant son on the brink of his culinary awakening. Together they hunt for the perfect family dining experience.

Tenney Kawaminami
